This past year we piloted and successfully launched our "Volunteers in Community" program. This program aims to match people in our community with similar interests as the individuals within our program. One of the best ways to form relationships and to work towards community inclusion for individuals with , is through volunteerism. Throughout the 2016 year, we volunteered over 1000+ hours at local community events and non-profit organizations.
Swift Current, SK is a small, but vibrant city.
Throughout the year, Swift Current hosts major events that are recognized both on a national and international scale. However, because Swift Current is small (17 000), it is difficult for the city to recruit enough volunteers. The Saskatchewan Abilities Council has numerous individuals who are more than willing and able to assist at these events, creating a positive "win-win" experience for both the community and the quality of life of the volunteers within our program.
People within our program have so much to give, and volunteering is a beautiful way of connecting with our community, while gaining important life skills and making new friendships.
