Chipman Youth Centre will operate a summer program for youth ages 5 - 18 in Chipman and area during the months of July and August. For youth ages 5 - 12 the Centre will run a summer day camp program, Monday to Friday, 10 AM - 5:30 pm daily during July and August. Ten children from marginalized families have been identified by Chipman Elementary School as in need of socialization skills. These 10 children will attend youth centre programming along with their peers during the summer months at no cost to them. They will participate in a week long gymnastics program, healthy lifestyle program, swimming, arts, crafts, music, games, outdoor activities. As well as enjoying lots of fun activites, children will receive tutoring to keep them current. Lesson plans for individual children have been provided by their school teachers. For youth ages 12 - 18 the Centre will offer The Wave of Youth Volunteer Program which encourages volunteerism. Youth will volunteer alongside of adults for community events such as community suppers, Canada Day celebrations, Chipman Summer Festival Events celebrating Canada 150. Vacation Bible Schools, Quit Fairs, etc. This is a free program designed to promote self-esteem in our youth, encourage volunteerism in the community, promotes leadership skills and keeps our youth active and engaged during the summer months. In addition to volunteering in the community, youth come together as a
group to enjoy a fun weekly event. This program is provided at no charge to enable all youth to participate. Youth achieving 50 volunteer hours over the summer months are eligible for a end of program trip. Youth as well as the wider community will benefit. Youth will learn new skills, enjoy positive experiences with their peers, increase fitness levels, self-esteem. Youth volunteering at community events will lighten the load for others. When youth feel included in their community they tend to make positive choices as they grow. Children attending Chipman Youth Centre programs will be taking part in all Canada 150 celebrations organized by the Centre and the Village. Many other organizations are involved in these programs such as the Queens North Health Complex with a healthy learning project, the local seniors club and community organizations who will request youth volunteers. Happier children make for a happier community.
