Over the course of 2017, Canadians have come together to mark the country’s sesquicentennial in a myriad of ways thanks to the work of our Alliance members. From celebratory parades to sombre remembrances, Canadians were given the opportunity to participate in projects and events that resonated with their personal connection to Canada, its history, and its future.
Through the Alliance network, we saw how these projects and events highlighted the things that mattered most in communities across the country:
Out west, Alberta hosted 27 initiatives focusing on reconciliation, while British Columbia had 111 initiatives dedicated to arts and culture. The Prairies showcased their love for sport with 75 initiatives across Saskatchewan and Manitoba. In Ontario, 128 initiatives engaged youth, while Quebec focused on inclusion with 75 initiatives in that area. In the east, the Atlantic provinces hosted 41 initiatives supporting the environment and the Northern territories had 12 initiatives each that focused on arts and youth.
